Whew! I’ve registered! Now what happens?

What’s the Board doing?

Your board begins the process of putting the teams together for the upcoming season. When this is completed, the uniforms will be ordered and the coaches will be notified.

When do the coaches get their teams?

Coaches should expect to receive their team rosters in early August

When do the players get called?

Teams may begin practice on or after August 1. The coaches will call the players usually early to mid August. They will give you all the information you will need in regards to practice times and location. Each coach sets his/her own practice days, time and location. The practice fields are located in the Fountain Valley area. Visit our web-site at www.ayso5.org for field directions

It’s after August 20 and my child has not been called. What do I do?

Please do not panic if you see teams practicing and your child has not been called. Not all teams begin practice at the same time. The very young teams, in particular, do not always begin practice on August 1. Also some coaches may be out of town. If your child has not been called by August 25, you may leave a message at (714) 345-5486.

What else does my child need?

The registration fee includes: a soccer kit consisting of a jersey, shorts, and socks.  This kit is yours to keep. Wear them only for games and picture day. In addition to your soccer kit your child is provided supplemental accident insurance, a team and individual pictures.

Each player must provide their own shoes, shin guards, a soccer ball of the correct size (see table below), and a water bottle. Try to avoid the all plastic balls like the Franklin.  It is a good idea to buy a few pairs of soccer socks to wear for practice.  Soccer shoes are not required.  However, they are recommended.

Some players like to wear “slide pants” which extend below the bottom of the soccer uniform shorts.  These are allowed if the slide pants are the same color as the shorts.

Games and practices will be held at fields within Fountain Valley Region 5 boundaries. Game fields for U14, U16 & U19 divisions may be played in local regions. Check with coach for time and place.

The Balanced Teams philosophy of AYSO requires every region at the start of the each season to set up teams as evenly as possible.  It’s more fun when teams are of equal ability.  This philosophy is applied to all teams except U6 & U5.  For all teams except U6 & U5, the teams are form using a double blind draft system.  Players are drafted based on their rating from the previous season or from the player evaluation.  The coaches do not have control over which team they will ultimately get. So it is in their best interest to make sure the teams are balanced.

Please Remember…..

AYSO is a parent-based volunteer organization established to provide a positive experience for our children. Go to the games. Learn the rules. Above all, be tolerant of the children’s coaches and referees mistakes and weaknesses.
